The Council on Foreign Relations hosts world leaders every September when heads of state and heads of government address the U.N. General Assembly. One year, a group of us participated in an extraordinary lunch with Vaclav Havel followed by an equally dramatic dinner reception with Yasser Arafat. We were leaving Pratt House to pursue our personal business between the two meetings when the door to a small room opened slightly and revealed fellow Council members with Fidel Castro. And just when we thought we were on the “A List.”
