RIP Malcolm Browne

The legendary war correspondent and photojournalist Malcolm Browne passed away this week. How sad that these great chroniclers of the Vietnam War are all now leaving us, especially with the recent deaths of Horst Faas and others in that onc e-in-a-lifetime AP Saigon Bureau. You may recall the Pulitzer Prize-winning Browne's image of the Buddhist monk setting himself on fire to protest the regime. For most of us, that photo ranks among the top three most striking images of that entire sad chapter. Our men and women in uniform performed heroically in that painful, reckless war. That’s part of the greatness of our military forces. Let's not forget, however, the heroism of these journalists who spoke truth to power and exposed the folly and horror of sending people into such needless wars in the first place.
