Margaret Thatcher Moment

Prime Minister Thatcher had to cancel a trip to Boston to receive an award from the World Affairs Council in the late 80s. Months later, a small delegation led by Council Chairman and global figure Charles Francis Adams presented the award to Thatcher in person at the British Embassy in DC. Upon greeting Mr. Adams, she mischievously looked at all of us and exclaimed, "You're Charles Francis Adams? THE Charles Francis Adams?" Scurrying to find her husband she said, "Dennis, take my photo with Charles Francis Adams!" Of course, she knew well the identity of her visitors, but used the moment to break the ice. This despite the fact that Mr. Adams' great, great, great.....grandfather John Adams had a little something to do with ousting the British from America.
