Eleven-year-old Tommy Cooney can teach us a thing or two about leadership and wisdom. He learned that six-year-old Danny Keefe was being bullied because of a speech condition that makes it difficult to understand him. Danny was also being unmercifully teased by kids in Bridgewater, MA because, for whatever reason, he likes to wear suits and ties to school - the same school Cooney attends. It seems that Cooney recently organized 45 boys to attend school in suits or shirts and ties to show Danny “that he was loved.”
What a contrast to some who occupy leadership positions – one should never confuse them with actual leaders – such as disgraced Lawrence, MA Mayor William Lantigua. Lantigua brought great shame onto his city in recent years, lost an election this month, demanded a recount, got the recount and lost again, and is still refusing to concede defeat. We can’t even admonish Lantigua or Toronto’s buffoon-in-chief Rob Ford to stop acting like children. As Tommy Cooney shows us, we could only hope for so much.
