Here's a terrific way to jump-start your day, creatively. Next time you see a highway sign for an interesting museum, gallery or library, stop. Yes, stop. Don't make excuses. Even if for 20 minutes, as was the case today for me at the Mark Twain Museum and Home here, a brief creativity pit stop can work wonders.
I love the Twain line, emblazoned in the museum lobby, "I have sampled this life." Words to live by, indeed. Two other inspiring Twain quotes include, "My pen has been warmed up in hell" and, my favorite, "Travel is fatal to prejudice" from Innocents Abroad. It would be difficult to find a better cure for bigotry and the self-certainty of narrow-mindedness than travel, though music and literature rank high on this list, too.
