Hapless, Helpless, Hopeless

This is the problem with Nigeria. As with too many nations these days, it is run - certainly not led - by indifferent incompetents and scandalous scoundrels. The Nigerian people are more cursed than blessed by oil wealth that buys them nothing but injustice and agony.

The National Assembly just chose to adjourn for a two-month recess in the midst of the nation's existential crisis with the bloodthirsty gangsters, Boko Haram. The Assembly brazenly turned their backs on President Goodluck Jonathan's urgent albeit late-filed request to the Assembly to borrow $1 billion to equip and train the military and police to fight these ruthless terrorists. The Assembly tabled the request and went on vacation, as 250 schoolgirls continue to be held hostage by Boko Haram and their nation slips further into the abyss. This is precisely why Nigeria proves the old saw true - a country of the future and always will be.
