We had lunch with US Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) yesterday. Here's a smart, independent-minded "adult" with whom one can
disagree but nonetheless know that you are in good hands. She spoke
passionately about the need to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank.
She reported that ExIm has returned $3.4 billion over costs to the
Treasury since 2006 in support of countless small and medium-size
businesses. "How many agencies can say this?" she asked us? I'm biased
on the subject as a former trade-finance banker and ExIm user, but the
answer is virtually none. So, Senator, we need you to urge the far-right
elements of your party to stop recklessly using this successful
government entity as their latest piñata.
