Now That’s a Leader: Natalie Guo - Feeding Hospital Workers, Pandemic Edition #5

Health care and restaurant workers are being devastated by Coronavirus. Natalie Guo and two Boston chefs immediately understood both the problem and the opportunity.

The Harvard Medical School student, Soros Fellow and immigrant from China and Sweden met with Boston chefs Tracy Chang and Ken Oringer and, according to Boston.com, the trio created Off Their Plate. The new non-profit organization puts restaurant kitchen staff to work preparing meals for front-line hospital staff. From Hell comes a match made in Heaven.

The organization’s name means that it’s trying to take a major worry “off the plates” of both hospital and restaurant workers. In just two weeks, OTP has prepared over 18,000 “hero meals” for staff at Brigham and Women’s and other Boston hospitals and generated over $92,000 in payroll for restaurant workers.

The idea is catching on like wildfire with new OTP initiatives already launched in Baltimore, Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh and San Francisco.
