Anatomy of a Movie #15: "The Window"

The 12-year-old boy saw his New York City, tenement-house neighbors kill a man. Little Tommy was played by Billie Driscoll in the 1949 Dory Schary movie “The Window.” His neighbors hid the body in the condemned tenement building next store and nobody believed Tommy when he tried to tell them about the murder.

Nineteen years later a dead body was found by two little boys in a condemned tenement house in New York’s East Village. The body was unidentified and buried without a name in Potter’s Field. Years later, fingerprints proved that the unknown individual was the former child-actor Billie Driscoll. Drug abuse and repeated run-ins with the law had taken their toll on the 31-year-old. The ugly coincidence is bizarre.
