Federal government employees are working with state and local officials to recover bodies and debris from the DC plane-crash site and ensure other real-time safety measures. They will painstakingly analyze in government labs and facilities what went wrong, why, and what policy, safety, training, or technical changes may be needed.
These people are deeply experienced career public servants - first-responders, rescue and salvage experts, aviation analysts, scientists, pilots, and communicators - from the DOT, FAA, Homeland Security, Coast Guard, TSA, Armed Services, and elsewhere. Many of them are civil service. From the Reagan years to this morning, these folks who work pretty darn well for American taxpayers have been ridiculed, vilified, and abused. Enough! It must stop! What are we doing to ourselves?
