“A World Without Caesars.” Wouldn’t it be nice.
The problem with most of today’s tech broligarchy is that they are greedy, personally insecure, and emotionally unintelligent guys who are wanna-be Caesars. And they think Big Tech - particularly their technology - is the answer to everything.
Fueling much of our nation's current demise has been a Silicon Valley cabal of angry tech broligarchs who care nothing about civilizational norms. That’s why Bluesky CEO Jay Graber deserves credit for showing up at SXSW with a t-shirt proclaiming in Latin, “A World Without Caesars.” She understands the power of symbolism. And, as is the case with many women leaders today, she’s not afraid to stick her neck out to push back against authoritarianism.
Her sartorial choice came in response to Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to wear a t-shirt exclaiming in Latin “Either Caesar or Nothing” at his developers conference last year. Except, with great humility, the Meta CEO replaced Caesar’s name with his own. Et tus, Zuck? Et tus?
Meanwhile, the Graber t-shirt has sold out multiple times since her recent talk at SXSW.
