A group of us from the Council on Foreign Relations spent a day at Commonwealth Fusion System (CFS) in Devens, MA earlier this year. Our energy future will someday be - and must be - fueled largely by a combination of green technologies, fusion, small utilization of fission until it is no longer needed, and increasingly smaller doses of hydrocarbons.
Will this happen? Yes, of necessity, but it’s going to take much, much longer than it should as our corrupt, government-by-imbeciles continues to implant its head fully up its ass and cede so many of these trillion-dollars technologies to China.
I’m fortunate to have great science mags enter the house every month, thanks to Walt. This most recent update on CFS in “IEEE Spectrum” underscores the tangible progress scientists are making with the staggeringly complex field of star-hot plasma physics, the engineering backbone of fusion power. CFS says that it expects its first Arc fusion reactor - safe and environmentally fine - to generate its initial plasma next year and to begin putting power on the grid from its first plant in northern Virginia in 2030.
