My friend Dennis and I were at the fabled Bottom Line in Greenwich Village in the late '80s to see Taj Mahal perform. We arrived late and as the houselights were lowered, we were quickly ushered to a reserved table in the front of the packed room. As Taj Mahal and his band entered stage right, the curtains to our left were pushed back and two people were also hurriedly escorted in the dark to the remaining two seats at our table. It was Bill and Camille Cosby, with whom we later split a pizza. Later in the show, Taj Mahal introduced his old friend sitting at the base of the stage and asked him to take a bow. Bill Cosby waved to the audience. For a moment there, I thought maybe he was about to introduce Dennis.
